Big Brother libel case is settled
Big Brother 6 runner-up Makosi Musambasi has settled a libel action against The Sun which alleged she had conned her way onto the reality show. Ms Musambasi sued the newspaper over the article printed in August 2005. It claimed the 26-year-old was really an actress and who had been fast-tracked onto the Channel 4 show. But solicitor David Price told London's High Court she went through the usual audition process, and that the newspaper now recognised that.
It is understood she has received undisclosed damages from The Sun, but details of the settlement were not given in court. The article, which was published while Ms Musambasi was still in the Big Brother house, mentioned an invoice for a video allegedly made for her by a talent agency. But Mr Price told the High Court said the invoice was unconnected to Ms Musambasi, who eventually came third in the show. She said she had been hurt and embarrassed by the article, and complained to the newspaper, which made an offer of amends and agreed to the amicable settlement of the claim.
Ms Musambasi had...

If they were simply a military test thing, why didn't they warn the public beforehand? And why if they're on parachutes why isn't there a greater vertical distance between them as they would have been dropped in sequence and should appear so?

In a wasteland next to a main road in Bucharest some of Romania's street children - scraps of humanity - peer out from under a vandalised billboard.
Their home is in a tunnel running under the city that forms part of a network carrying hot water pipes.
There is no natural light - just a few candles on the walls. Rubbish is strewn across the floor.
And there are children who say they are 16, but look no older than 10, sniffing glue from bags.
These children say this "home" is their best option.
It is an option taken by 2,000 children in Romania, according to official statistics. But children's charities believe the figure is a woeful underestimate.
In the economic chaos following the collapse of communism, poverty has forced many onto the street to beg, steal and survive in any way they can.
Group leader Joby, 21, says he has lived in the tunnel for nine years.
"I do not wish anyone to be in this situation," he said.
"Everyone here would like to have their own family and home. The children on the street are my family -...

AMSTERDAM (AP) — Self-conscious about what you wear while working out? A Dutch gym plans to introduce "Naked Sunday" for people who like to huff and puff in the buff.
Patrick de Man, owner of Fitworld gym in the town of Heteren, said he got the idea in part from two of his customers who are avid nudists.
"I heard that some other gyms are offering courses on 'pole-dancing' as a sport, so I thought: Why not bring something new to the market?" de Man said.
He said the response had been overwhelming — positive and negative.
The 70,000-member Dutch Federation of Naturists was curious to see if Fitworld's plan would work, spokesman Bernd Huiser said.
"We recently conducted a large survey among our members, and most prefer to exercise with their clothes on," he said. "The most popular activities (for nudists) are things you do outdoors, like walking on the beach, or swimming in a lake, or maybe gardening."
De Man said the first question Fitworld customers were asking was whether it would be sanitary.
Nude exercisers would be required to put towels down on weight machines and to use disposable seat...
