Let Bill Hicks rest in peace
COLIN SOMERVILLE
IS BILL Hicks the greatest comedian who ever lived? Well, no, not really. His fellow funnymen only placed him at 13 in the list of all-time greats. Many still argue that the Texan was the most radical stand-up of his or any other generation, but his status is undermined by the relentless overexposure of a limited legacy with each passing year.
He is not the first performer to find greater fame posthumously than in his cruelly short lifetime, but as his first filmed performance finally gets a DVD release tomorrow - Sane Man, filmed in 1989 - surely Bill himself would groan and urge folks to move on.
Since his untimely death from pancreatic and liver cancer more than 12 years ago, Hicks' name has been devalued through being dropped heavily and all too frequently, tarnishing a hard-won reputation. Radiohead dedicated their breakthrough record The Bends to him in 1995, and ever since then, less distinguished rock bands have piled on board the Hicks bandwagon in the desperate hope it would take them to Hipsville.
While performing...

There was a lot of kick-up about this video - suggesting that the powers-that-be had tried to block it... but it turns out that C-span just wanted to make some cash, and fair-dos to them...
Anyway, this link has the full 24 minute clip and it's pretty good actually. Might be a bit too smart for some Fox News viewers though!

We do usually put spoiler in the subject line of anything that gives away a big storyline, so I hope that helps. Thing is most of our members do enjoy being able to discuss both current storylines and spoilers. Including myself.

I've seen beckham dropping off his ferrari once while at uni, campus was in egham and there's a couple posh showrooms down the road in the village...also seen anthony head in the fox and hounds pub ini egham, he's a regular, and also seen gary lineker (sp?) walking around.....and in London, seen fatsy that plays Phil Mitchel in selfridges...and i've yet to actually see, but the loony, John Travolta and Kirstie Alley both have a gaff on the island just up over in the next town...
