They must be scared of UKIP to come out with this. I reckon a referendum would see things changing slightly, but not a huge amount. Most people aren't little Inglanders after all...
Of course, Scotland may well have become independent (while staying in the EC) by then, so it won't mean much to us up here.

Thousands protest racism in Athens rally

ATHENS, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Thousands of protesters marched in the center of Athens on Saturday afternoon, denouncing racism following a fatal attack against a Pakistani immigrant earlier this week. Approximately 4,000 Greeks and foreigners living in Greece chanted slogans against fascist violence, as members of the Pakistani community held prayers in front of the City hall and carried the coffin of a Pakistani migrant stabbed to death by two Greeks aged 29 and 25 years old on Thursday in Athens.
According to local media reports, the two Greeks told prosecutors that they attacked 27-year old Shehzad Luqman after a strong verbal argument, because he blocked their motorbike with his bicycle. However, the discovery of pre-election posters of the far-Right "Chryssi Avgi" (Golden Dawn) party at the home of one of the attackers indicated that the attack could be racist.

A brother of one of those murdered on Bloody Sunday last night slammed those responsible for erecting Parachute Regiment flags in the city ahead of the anniversary of the massacre. John Kelly, whose 17 year-old brother, Michael, was among 14 people shot dead by British paratroopers on January 30 1972, was speaking after flags bearing the regiment’s insignia were erected in Drumahoe and the Fountain in the early hours of yesterday morning. Last night the flag at the Fountain was taken down after efforts by community activists on both sides of the interface.
Mr Kelly said the erection of the flags was an attempt to raise tensions arising from the ongoing dispute over the flying of the Union flag in Belfast. “The people who actually erected these flags need to wise up,” he told the ‘Journal’. “They are trying to incorporate Bloody Sunday into the flag dispute and antagonise people.
