Sister locked up and forgotten ... for 70 years!

the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity, the Sisters of Mercy, the Religious Sisters of Charity and the Sisters of the Good Shepherd

vicious, vile people. They, or their like, used to be in charge of a primary school I went to. Without one milligram of decency between them, I can't imagine what those poor girls and women went through, we had at least a home to come home to.

Wow - that is some transformation for Josie! I think I preferred her with a little more meat on her though. She just looks like all the rest now - no individuality about her anymore.

Norwegian comic takes world standup record

Have you heard one about the comedian performing non-stop stand-up for 25 hours?

It makes sitting in a bath of baked beans look, well, a bit silly. Mark Watson is preparing to perform stand-up for 25 hours non-stop to raise money for the 25th anniversary of Comic Relief. The comedian will begin his marathon gig at 11pm on Thursday 28 February and finish at midnight on Friday 1 March. He has previously performed 24-hour shows at the Edinburgh and Melbourne festivals but vowed never to do it again in 2009. Then Comic Relief called.

“You can’t really turn them down”, he tells me. “And I didn’t want to do something half-hearted when you have John Bishop running and cycling 300 miles and raising enormous amounts. They wanted something a bit more underground and peculiar, an alternative Comic Relief show, if you like. So I want to keep it reasonably shambolic and unplanned. It’s a not a well-drilled 25-hour comedy gala. Basically, I’m trying to plan it, but not too well.”

Star guests are expected to drop in to the show at London’s Pleasance Theatre...

George Galloway wants Rangers to be pursued for £14m in tax

Dundee-born MP George Galloway wants the Government to tackle Rangers for £14 million in tax withheld by the Ibrox club before it went into administration. The Respect politician has tabled an early day motion in the House of Commons aimed at stopping Rangers from “sidestepping their liabilities”. His move has been supported so far by only three MPs, including Dundee West Labour member Jim McGovern. It may struggle to gain enough support to be formally debated in Westminster but it has attracted a range of comments from fans on the internet.

As member of parliament for Bradford West, Mr Galloway is toasting the triumph of Bradford City in reaching the final of the Capital One Cup at Wembley. The former Harris Academy pupil, who began his political career as secretary-organiser of the Labour Party in Dundee, has been irked by Rangers going into liquidation with massive debts but re-emerging as a newco. Although now playing in the Scottish third division, they have held on to their Ibrox home and are challenging any moves to strip...

Guy kills ostrich as part of elaborate suicide attempt
23/1/2013

A man was rescued by police in a zoo in Shaoguan City on January 19 after a bizarre suicide attempt which followed even more bizarre behaviour, Shenzhen Satellite Television reports. The man, Li, 27, from Yunnan Province, attacked an ostrich in the zoo and bit it to death in front of onlookers who included children and elderly people. He then slashed his wrists as police were called.

Xu Jianwen, deputy head of Datang Road police station told reporters that when he arrived at the scene, Li was highly excitable and simulated firing a gun at the policemen. He was already covered in blood when police arrived. As he began to lose strength, Li lay on the ostrich’s corpse like a pillow before police approached him tentatively. He offered little resistance before police dragged him away. He was rushed to hospital where his condition soon stabilized. However, that night, his condition worsened and he was returned to hospital. He appears to be out of the woods now. A suicide note was found on his person. The note urged his parents...
