TORONTO, Ontario (AP) -- Former Canadian leaders are trying to inspire young, civic-minded types on a reality TV show.

Ex-prime ministers Brian Mulroney, John Turner, Joe Clark and Kim Campbell will be judges on the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.'s "The Next Great Prime Minister."

Comedian Rick Mercer will host the one-hour special in which the former prime ministers will grill five finalists before a live audience March 18. The ex-leaders and members of the audience will then have an equal vote to pick the winner.

The CBC has set a December 15 deadline for Canadians aged 18 to 25 to submit short videotaped speeches about why they should become prime minister and what they would do once in office.

"This hunt for our future leader will engage our youth while providing our audiences with an early glimpse at the political leaders of tomorrow," said Kristine Layfield, executive director of network programming at CBC Television.

The show aired last year for the first time and created buzz when one of the contestants nearly walked off stage in a bundle of nerves, insisting he could...

Why 9 candles?

Hanukkah itself means "dedication"

The center candle is called the "shamash" which means "guard" or "servant". It is used to light the other eight candles.

A very short version of the story is the Maccabee's had reclaimed the Jewish temple and right to have their religion (from Rome) and were going to redidicate the temple to God. They wanted to relight the menorah during the celebration. They looked everywhere for the blessed oil, and found a small flask that contained only enough to light the menorah for one day (the menorah is never supposed to stop burning in the temple). It was going to take eight days to bless and ready the new oil.The story goes that the oil lasted for eight days. Just enough time to bless the new oil.

So each candle represents a day of the miracle. One candle is lit every evening. There is one prayer that is said every evening when you light the candles. (There...

Cooking your goose

Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat ... so much the better since it knocks the stuffing out of turkey any day. I have championing the cause for years, so I'm delighted if people are turning to goose as their Christmas bird. It is a far superior way of celebrating the festive day than a turkey. The great thing about goose is that it's a grazer - it eats grass - and that's what gives that fantastic, dense, almost beefy flavour. You can actually serve it pink, but at the same time you have all that wonderful fat as well. It has everything you might want; frankly, it knocks turkey into a cocked hat - a cocked Christmas party hat.

The problem with turkey is that unless you put a lot of effort into finding a good one - which means organic, free-range and hung "long-legged" (with the guts in, to mature the flavour) - then it just doesn't taste of very much. It's less interesting than a decently sourced organic chicken. In fact, the only thing turkey really has going for it is size...

The brain tumor is a lie. From what we've heard it looks like she is going to be murdered.

Paper money to change in US

I know a lot of people make fun of the Canadian Money and it's different shapes and colours, but it is far easier for a visually impaired person to deal with. All of our coin is a different shape and the edges have different textures. The bills all have certain "raised" features such as numbers on them and have the corresponding braille dots so they can be read easily.

In that case it must kill the sperm already present in the testicals also, or at least mess with them to such an extent that they can't "Home in" on the egg.

Now comes the MORAL Question...
Is this ethical?

With the world up in arms about killing a fetus & such things as frozen sperm, frozen eggs etc...
Surely this would be seen worse than say "The morning after pill"?

(The wife wonders if they can add some 'falvoring' to it also as the idea of dead sperm & cells don't sound tasty).

According to some, taking the female birth control pill isn't ethical. So this could be debated forever.

I find it perfectly ethical. Unused sperm dies anyway and is absorbed back into the body. Since men are constantly producing them and there is no way they can ever use them all (unlike women who have a set number, that it and once you're done, you're done) I wouldn't see it...
