Tony spoiler

Post by Aja »

IT looks like Ricky could be onto sick pedophile Tony when he catches him laying into Whitney!

Ricky hits the roof when he witnesses a violent row between the secret lovers – but will he guess the shocking truth?

“When Ricky sees Whitney in tears and Tony in a rage, he demands to know what’s going on,” says Sid Owen, who plays Ricky. “Tony might have finally been busted.”

It all starts when Tony ramps up his campaign to get closer to Lauren.

Preying on her at a time when her mum Tanya is in jail and she’s forced to live with her dad Max, who she hates, he invites her to a gig.

But when he learns Max has grounded Lauren, he’s left seething. And later, when Whitney dolls herself up for a night in with him, Tony goes ballistic.

He orders her to remove her make-up and violently forces her to scrub her face clean. At that point, Ricky walks in!

“Ricky is concerned by what he sees, but both Tony and Whitney make up a cock-and-bull story about Whitney being caught sneaking out to a gig to cover his behavior,” explains Sid.

“But Tony’s going to have to watch his step from now on, because Ricky’s got his eye on him.”

I can see Ricky being the one to suss what is going on. It will lead up to a great showdown.

How true.

And actually both spellings are correct. The one you used Aja is the US spelling. Just like we spell realize with a 'z' and not an 's' or drop the 'u' from color and flavor.

That would be true if the root paedo wasn't already a derivative. Greek I think.

The ae represents a softer ee sound and stands as a subtlety that must be upheld!

It is true. Both spellings are correct.
It's root is in Greek: the word "paidophilia" pais which means boy and philia for love

I would think that would mean that.
The spelling of theatre in the US was spelled the 're' way until the late 90s when the spelling was officially changed to "theater" for US English (even though both spellings are still acceptable). Unlike, centre which had it's spelling changed sometime in the 40s or 50s to center.
Pedophile has been spelled that way for as long as I can remember. And looking back over mine and my fathers psychology books (he got his doctorate in the 80s) it is spelled that way in his books as well as mine.

But, as a geek of repute (!), don't you think that it loses something when you remove the linguistic difference? Subtle should be suttle in that sense, but it also loses the original 'subtitular' meaning if you do that.

Language constantly evolves and changes. The meaning of the pedophile hasn't changed, even if the spelling has. I don't think the word has lost anything.

Think of words that have changed meanings for general usage but not changed spelling, like 'gay' or 'faggot'. Those are just other examples of how our language (and others) are not static. I for one was not able to read Chaucer in his original writing, but he was still writing in "English". Would he think the English language now had lost something?
