Coronation Street goes to South Africa!
16th July[/align]
ITV has announced a special DVD spin-off of Coronation Street, featuring Fiz, Chesney and Kirk heading to South Africa. Available in time for Christmas, the DVD is billed as the most ambitious Coronation Street spin off ever - and the first in 10 years.

The story revolves around the trio being reunited with Fiz and Chesney's errant mother, Cilla. While the central action will only be viewable on the DVD, the fall-out will carry over onto Coronation Street itself.

What's Cilla doing in South Africa? And how do her kids afford to go there? And does it mean that Fiz & Kirky get back together? Questions, Questions! I'm going to have to look out for the DVD.

...and is Les Battersby in the picture in any way?

I wasn't aware there were spin-offs of Corrie. Though it's hard to imagine any sub-story being large enough to sustain its own series.

"Swingin' Dev" (you're past it mate; get over it)
Tyrone (sp?), Molly & Maria (3's Company -- it's been done, but not like this)
Lee-Ann Battersby (Dinner & Desert -- ick!)
David & The Platts (British Psycho)
everyone over 65 (Jack, Rita, Norris, Emily, Doreen (?), Audrey, etc) -- no idea

There must be some good ideas out there...

This was the last one I think - from 2000. There was also 'The Cruise' one-off a few years before that when a few of the cast went on a Mediterranean cruise, which I think was just about your last suggestion! haha

I don't think there's been any spin-off series as such though.

Ah, so they mean more of a special episode away from the street. Like the Websters in Paris or Steve & Eileen in Spain (or was it Morocco?).

I can't see Cilla in South Africa. She must've blown through that 45,000 quid on the roulette table.
