Who are the people who complain about cyclists? Do they really not recognise that the laws are there for safety and that the whole point is that if you get hit by a car at 30mph it's going to just a bit worse than being hit by a cyclist at their average speed of 15-20mph? Cars also take up at least 4-5 times the space. The laws aren't there just for the sake of it and I'm sure in years to come that they will change dramatically.
I don't run red-lights myself as such - I'll wait til the green man goes off, then shoot off - those few seconds between it changing and the lights going green for the traffic give me the chance to get out of the way of them, their death traps, and their pollution!
