Coronation Street joins recycling mission

Recycle Now, the national recycling campaign for England, will indefinitely mark its logo on a popular TV show to encourage the public to recycle more. The campaign group has joined forces with Coronation Street and its brand logo will feature on all the street’s recycling bins.

Speaking to MRW head of Recycle Now Fridey Cordingley said:” We hope to reach people across the board where many people will see the logo as possible. Soaps replicate everyday life and everybody sees them. The inclusion of the recycling bins will hopefully encourage viewers to recycle more. It is important to stress that we do not pay for the logos on Coronation Street. We have an agreement with Coronation Street in which they are keen to promote recycling. We all relate to role models.”

Coronation Street regularly attracts audience figures of over 10 million and Samia Smith who plays Maria Sutherland officially launched the Street’s initiative.

Cordingley added: “Anecdotally people have been giving good feedback on the Recycle Now campaign in general. We have a 65% recognition rate of our logo. The logo is another way of reinforcing that everybody can recycle. The logo is being recognised as a call for action.
“I am absolutely delighted that such an iconic programme with a massive audience will promote our logo.”

The campaign is part of an ongoing public relations programme and the Recycle Now logo has also featured as a poster on the soap EastEnders.
