Former EastEnder Wendy Richard is rumoured to have signed up for sun-kissed ITV1 comedy Benidorm.

The veteran actress is reportedly set to start work on the series this month and it's expected to hit screens at the start of next year.

Wendy is thought to be playing a 'loud-mouthed, rude' wheelchair-bound character, reports The Sun.

"She is really looking forward to being a part of this series - she was a huge fan of the first," an insider told the paper.

Wendy made her showbusiness debut in Sammy Davis Jnr's 1960 show Sammy Meets The Girls.

She went on to appear in classic projects Danger Man, The Likely Lads and Dad's Army before joining John Inman and the staff of Grace Bros in hit sitcom Are You Being Served? in 1972.

However, she's probably best known for playing Walford's Pauline Fowler, a role she took on in 1985 and played for almost 22 years.

If this is true I think it's great. I would love to see her do some stuff after EE and to see her in this show would be brilliant! :thumbs:

I too would like to see Wendy Richard continue acting regularly. Just not another Growler.

What kind of show is Benidorm? Drama? Soap? Comedy? As long as it's not an Angela Lansbury type show or that Hetty Wainthropp type show. :-)

But this will be a new season. It won't be the same characters I think. After all they're on vacation there, not living

I think this would be great! Can see her as a miserable old lady on holiday moaning about everything :D

sounds like a great show. I really enjoyed her on Are You Beng Served and I watch it whenever I can.
