Gas cooker destroys island

Post by faceless »

This was the staggering scene after a faulty gas cooker exploded in a timber-framed shack – and devastated a tiny Caribbean island. The blast caused an inferno that leapt from hut to hut, taking less than ten minutes to sweep across Soledad Miria. Many of the 1,014 inhabitants dived into the sea or took to fishing boats to escape. More than a third – 348 – were injured but, amazingly, no one died.

Oh my goodness! Those houses were really packed in there. It could have been much worse though. I guess they will have to ship in new wood for the houses to be rebuilt or ship in cement.

That is really incredible. I had to keep looking at it because it just seems so odd.

Those houses do look really packed in, so it's no surprise they were destroyed that quickly. It's quite remarkable that nobody died.

It is a very strange looking picture and had to be an amazingly scary moment! I am glad no one was killed.
