A CONTRACEPTIVE pill for men that can be taken just hours before sex has been developed by British scientists.
The revolutionary tablet would stop men being able to get a woman pregnant for a few hours ? after which fertility would return to normal.
It could be taken daily or as a one-off just before a date.
It would not affect sexual satisfaction and would not have to be taken over the long term.
Other ?male Pills? in development alter hormone levels to turn off sperm production, but cause side-effects like hot flushes and moodiness.
The hormone methods usually come as injections, implants and patches.
Instead, the new Pill ? developed by Kings College London ? contains chemicals that prevent ejaculation.
It could be on the market in five years and could generate massive income for the university.
Annual world sales of the female Pill are worth ?21billion a year.
It will appeal to women with concerns about the Pill, which can raise stroke risk, heart attacks and blood clots.
Contraception expert Professor John Guillebaud hailed the new male Pill as ?a brilliant discovery?.
