Joshua Pascoe, who plays troubled teen Ben Mitchell in the soap was questioned by detectives and released on bail. The 16-year-old attended Wimbledon police station in South London on Thursday.
After unrelated allegations of bullying, he was suspended from stage school Italia Conti, in Islington, North London, in March. Joshua was nominated for 'Villain of the Year' at this year's British Soap Awards but lost out to Coronation Street actor Andrew Lancel (Frank Foster). His mother Sheree, 48 is separated from his father - Joshua lives with his father, Gary, a builder in Sutton, South London.
'His mum is distraught. He's only 16, so his arrest is very upsetting for the whole family,' a source told The Sun. A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: 'A 16-year-old boy was arrested on May 24 in connection with an allegation of sexual assault. He has been bailed to return to a North London police station on July 31.' Last night a BBC spokesman told the paper: 'We are aware of the allegations.'
