Corrie's creator has blasted its bosses for giving characters costly goods way beyond their means. Tony Warren was so incensed at the range of posh electrical gear and designer clothes on the show that he did a pricecheck. "One family had an electric kettle they couldn't possibly afford in real life," said the writer, who stressed that he created the soap to reflect everyday life accurately. And I also know where one female character's housecoat is from. It cost £95. Where would she get £95 from?"

The stickler for detail hit out after seeing sexy Rosie Webster in a basque worth at least £400 and only available in exclusive boutiques - while she worked as a low-paid Underworld factory assistant. He was also irritated by the Peacocks having a very well-appointed house after going through a financial crisis. Other characters often flash expensive new outfits, jewellery, mobiles and games.

Mr Warren, 74, told the Edinburgh International Television Festival he had made his views known at a recent lunch with new show boss Phil Collinson.

There are certainly a lot more business owners in the cast... Dev with his 7 shops, Steve with the pub and taxi firm, Kevin with the garage, his dad with the builder's yard, Audrey's hairdressing place, Carla's factory and Chesney's pet supplies! Considering how many people are in the cast, that's a lot of entrepreneurs for one back street.

They are a talented bunch! Don't forget Peter and his betting shop....although he seems to be handing out large amounts of cash to handsome swindlers lately.. LOL!
