I lived about an hour or so from Gainesville when these murders were happening. We had just moved to Tampa from the 'burbs in June of 1989 and trying to get used to living in the "big city". It was scary. Of course the local news hyped it up and since it was just myself and my female roommate living at the back of a large apt complex, we bought into it and got alarms and window locks. Probably not needed, but it made us feel better so...
