sad story... I've not heard of rifles shooting 7km before, that's over 4 miles.

I haven't either Face and I find it hard to believe. I know the longest sniper shot on record is 1.5 miles but I've not heard of a distance like that with a rifle that isn't screwed into a ship.

Something like a .50 cal will have a max range somewhere in that region, but max range is different to max effective range, you would have no chance of hitting something you where aiming at 7km away.
