The People Speak will be airing on Sunday, 31 October, at 2100 (9 pm), on the History channel in the UK and other countries that carry the UK feed.
The film -- inspired by Howard Zinn's books A People's History of the United States and Voices of a People's History of the United States and the US documentary The People Speak ( https://www.thepeoplespeak.com/ ) -- looks at the rich UK tradition of dissent from 1320 to the present through the speeches, writings, poems, and songs of those who defied authority and fought for change.
The film, directed by Colin Firth and myself, features performances by Nonso Anozie, Saffron Burrows, John Castle, Anna Chancellor, Noel Clarke, Omid Djalili, Rupert Everett, Tom Hickey, Celia Imrie, Ben Kingsley, Keira Knightley, Laura Marling, Kelly Macdonald, Ian McKellen, Stephen Rea, Tom Robinson, Arundhati Roy, Colin Salmon, Mark Steel, Juliet Stevenson, Joss Stone, Mark Strong, Owen Teale, Teddy Thompson, The Unthanks, and Benjamin Zephaniah.
