'Nighty Night' to be remade for US
by Neil Wilkes
BBC Three's dark comedy Nighty Night is to be remade for US cable network Showtime.
Sex and the City creator Darren Star will write and executive produce the US version, which has been commissioned for a pilot script. Steve Coogan and Henry Normal, founders of production company Baby Cow, will co-executive produce.
The original UK version airs Stateside on women's channel Oxygen.

Considering how few people watched it here (it was on bbc3) I can only imagine that the remake will be sanitised and pish. The whole basis of the first series is that Jill is pretending her husband is dead while he is in fact in hospital with cancer, while trying to shag her disabled neighbour's husband - and I just can't see that working in america. It's the darkest comedy I've seen for a good while, so maybe I'm just a bit precious about it being diluted for a mass audience.
