The role of Amy Barlow in Coronation Street is to be recast for the fifth time. The Sun reports that producers at the popular ITV soap have decided to replace Amber Chadwick, who has played the youngster for four years, with another actress named Elle Mulvaney.

The move coincides with the return to the cobbles of Amy's mother, Tracy Barlow, who is currently serving a prison sentence for the murder of Charlie Stubbs. She will be first seen back on TV screens in May for the funeral of her grandmother, Blanche. Towards the end of the year she will make a full-time return to the street. The Sun quotes a source as saying "Amber was lovely but Elle is a very natural little actress."

About time too - next to that wee boy who plays Simon she's like a damp squib next to a mega-rocket. But I had no idea she was the fifth one already.

Fair enough. Talk about bad child actors/actresses.....the kid who plays Ben. He looks so uncomfortable rattling off his lines, and they don't come out of his mouth naturally as if he is really "Ben". I'd like to see him replaced.

It wasn't as obvious that she was so bad until Simon came onto the Street. He's a natural! Amber is cute but has nothing about her! Even in the scenes with Becky, she doesn't come out of her shell. Hopefully, this new actress will be a lot better.

The little guy who plays "Simon" is brilliant -- just adorable and seems so natural.

In my view, the daughter of Tracy Barlow and Steve McDonald would be a complete chatterbox -- even a bit cheeky!

Agreed, Kez. She would certainly not be as wooden as the kid they have playing her now.

I love Simon. He is really cute and just the right amount of cheek...
