Galloway-Hitchens debate

Post by DavidGig »

First, thanks to faceless for all his archiving. The talkSport shows have become a regular part of my listening here in Kansas.

Here is another link that goes back a ways--the famous debate between Galloway and Christopher Hitchens from Sept. 2005.

This took place at Baruch College in New York City, and was dedicated to the proposition "The War in Iraq Was Necessary and Just". It ultimately sprung from Galloway's Senate testimony earlier in the year, since the attention earned there made him a target for the pro-war crowd, and Hitchens took aim.

Galloway once described Hitchens as a "drink-sodden former Trotskyist popinjay", while Hitchens in turn called Galloway a "wide-boy".

I love that debate! At least Hitchens had the balls to get up and debate George - many neocon talking heads flat refuse to take on our Georgie because they know all too well that he would humiliate them totally.

There was another debate involving Hitchens around this time, which was with Scot Ritter, the former UN Weapons Inspector. Again Hitchen's phony arguments were systematically & effectively torn apart, but in less rip roaring manner than Galloway’s, however it’s still a great debate though.

Search "drink-sodden former Trotskyist popinjay" on wikipedia. Guess who comes up!

Thanks for the link popinjay, but it was not the debate I'm was referring to. I've had a quick look on Google, but all I can find are reviews of the debate, but no actually download link for the debate itself. If you search on "ritter hitchens debate" the first few results are reports of the debate, but I thank you for you link as it's new to me.

Could Hitchens face Galloway now - after all that has unfolded since that debate? Would he dare get up on the plaform with him. Most of his arguments have been discredited and Galloway's vindicated. The only amunition he would have left would be Celebrity Big Brother. Much like Oona King.

Any particular reason for the bump, apart from this being a timeless classic ?!

Here's an interesting interview... Christopher Hitchens making some pretty strong allegations about GG. I'm not sure when it was broadcast, but it sounds like it was about 3 weeks ago.
