Galloway's divorce

George Galloway divorced for unreasonable behaviour
19th January 2009
Flamboyant MP George Galloway was divorced by his second wife today because of his unreasonable behaviour. Dr Amineh Abu-Zayyad, 42, a Palestinian scientist, was granted a "quickie" decree nisi by a London County Court judge. She filed a complaint about the 54-year-old Respect MP's friendships with other women, claiming his behaviour left her depressed.

Dr Abu-Zayyad was granted a divorce on the uncontested ground that the marriage had irretrievably broken down because of her husband's unreasonable behaviour. She agreed she still shared the MP's home in Streatham, south west London, but said they had separate households and did not share a bedroom or take their meals together. Neither party was in court for the brief hearing before Judge Martin Berry.

The Dundee-born MP represented Glasgow constituencies for Labour before being expelled from the party in October 2003. He then set up his Respect Party and became Respect MP for Bethnal Green and Bow in east London. He married first wife Elaine Fyffe in 1979 and they have a daughter Lucy. They divorced in 1999 and the following year he married Dr Abu-Zayyad. In May 2007 he had a son by his Lebanese third "wife", researcher Rima Husseini.

I suppose fathering Zain with one of his researchers, Rima Husseini, was something of a last straw for poor old Dr Amineh!

I know his personal life shouldn't be delved into too deeply, out of respect for his privacy, but does anyone know if he's still with Rima?

From his occasional rumblings about only seeing the kid occasionally, I'd guess not.

It makes me think though, maybe I should become a politician so I can knock up a researcher - it seems very much de-rigeur in politics and considering the various well known politicians who have done so there must be a lot more, who aren't so well known, at it!
