Faceless, bigger shit has happened and little has been done to the cops because of it. I could name example after example. He is unionized. All his legal fees are covered and representation is to. He would not receive time. And he would probably have received his job back.
In my mind, this cop made a mistake. But his mistake was made on the mistake before his to allow cops to use tazers at all. A respectable nation does not taze it's people.
I do not blame the cop nearly as much as I blame the system for allowing tazers and the man (other cop) who actually tazered him.
Cops are allowed to disobey illegal orders. And clearly, if they took the mans badge and gun, it was an illegal order to begin with. It could have been disobeyed. And I am sure the man who killed himself was kicking himself before he took his life over such a mistake he made.
What about the mental health system which allowed such a situation to happen? The man who died in the video was offering no threat to anyone. I've been hit with a lot worse than a flourescent tube in my time...
Oh Sir, I could go on and on about the mental health....Or really all health issues with America, yet unsolved with no answers in sight. You are absolutly right. For any kind of healthcare in America, we suck. Head for Cuba, Canada, France, most of the UK, etc, etc, etc, instead of America.
Mental health in most countries is piss poor. Not just America. There is still a stigma through out the world connected to receiving mental health care and trying to just fix issues with drugs.
Having worked in both the UK and American systems, I can tell you, both are equally bad when it comes to the aid to those in need.
Part of this problem stems directly from the care givers and the other comes from the aforementioned stigma.
no doubting that Sky, there's been plenty of cases where people in this guy's state have been killed. I'm just surprised that a high ranking cop of 21 years experience chose to give that order. The cop who was firing it should have been capable enough to make a decision on the threat.
I would rather be in a piss poor system that cared for everybody rather than a piss poor system that cared only for those who are insured.
I can also tell you that mental health care isn't covered that readily in many countries under the National Health Care system. Sorry. Doesn't work that way. Through out the west a lot of people don't get mental health coverage paid for. Maybe they can see a psychiatrist but not a psychologist or counselor. The former will just drug you and send you on your way. Reaalll helpful.

Then that is not fucking universal healthcare at all! Are you kidding me?

No. There is no free dental care in Britain or Germany. Pay to get your own teeth cleaned.
Remember it's health care, not mental health care. There is a serious difference in the eye of medical world, political world and insurance.
I am not a Marxist, but I embrace some of those views.
My point is this:
Nations should be taking care of their people. Health is very basic and something we should already be on top of right now. There are few nations I know who have it right.
Cops should not be allowed to carry and/or use tazers whatsoever.
The man who killed himself is a good man, I am sure.
The man who actually shot the tazer should be mentioned and may also be a good guy....But also some Rookie. Who knows!
Fault should lay with those who really are guilty.
This is a shame that could have been prevented with better decision making in the beginning.
I am sure things like this happen more then we are let on to know about.
Education sucks in America, which is why we are not educated enough to understand complex situtions like this beforehand, or when they arise.
The American Government, since Regan, has given little to no shit at all about the mentally handicapped. Since Regen, we now place them in the same jail with people who are sane, but just evil. Do you know what kind of mess this works out? Jail should be "Correctional" and it is not, by far!
Police are not trainned well enough, overall.
Civil rights are not protected enough.
Policy is written in the US to protect the policy maker, not the people or the peron.
We have so much shit to choose from, we do not even know what right and wrong is anymore.
Mental health care before Regan was bad before. Don't get me wrong, I am not fan of Regan but historically the treatment of the mentally ill is awful. You just have to look at Bethlem Royal Hospital (aka Bedlam) which started taking psych patients in the mid 1300s. It, like many places through out history is not remembered for his shining reputation of care of the mentally ill.
The ill care of mentally unstable patients is not a new creation of the 20th and 21st century. Scarily enough it has actually improved, even in the last 20 years it has gotten better and we're in a bad state still.
