Arrests after football violence
At least 25 people have been arrested in Jersey after fighting following the England v Portugal World Cup match, Jersey police said.

Unrest on the streets of St Helier began shortly after the Portugal win. England fans threw bottles and glass at riot police - deployed for only the second time in the island's history.

Ten per cent of Jersey is Portuguese or of Portuguese origin. Police had kept the two sets of supporters separate after similar scenes during Euro 2004.

Gutted for England - Rooney is likely going to be torn to shreds by the English press much like Beckham was for his sending off against the Argies a few years back.

Quite right too - his temper got the better of him.

England were certainly the better team in the second half and may have grabbed the goal if they had all their players on the pitch.

Sven is gone and he will also be criticised heavily for his team selection (why did he take Walcott and then not play him?), but then he doesn't really give a shit as he is leaving anyway.

Shows what you get for putting a foreigner in charge of the national team.

Fun to see the Brazilians and Fatboy get knocked out - at least the finals will be wide open now, but I really don't want the Germans or the French to win, and if the Azuri win then all hell will be let loose here in Toronto, so COME ON PORTUGAL!!!

At last we have a meeting of the minds. I want Portugal to win as well so COME ON PORTUGAL!!!

(England sucked to shite long before Rooney got sent off so it had bugger all to do with him. Since the public needs someone to blame, he'll be the fall guy.)

The Portugese think of Brazil as being their second team, presumably for colonial reasons. I wonder how the Brazilians feel about them?

Just goes to show...Brazil really aren't the best team in the world. It's alright scoring about 4 against rubbish teams, but when a bit of competition comes along, they're no better than the rest!
