Cellar monster Josef Fritzl has been sent hundreds of love letters from lonely women offering him romance. Some of the women have said that Fritzl, who locked his daughter Elisabeth in a cellar for 24 years and fathered her children, is 'good at heart' and misunderstood.

Fritzl has so far received a mountain of 200 love letters. Those writing to the 73-year-old former electrician believe that he wanted to keep his daughter out of trouble and so kept her prisoner for most of her life. Fritzl fathered seven children through his daughter and he is now in Austria's Sankt Poelten prison where he has also received a mountain of hate mail. So far he has received a total of 5,000 letters. Elisabeth, 42, is recovering in a psychiatric clinic. Three of her children were kept prisoner in the dungeon with her.

He is due in court again on Friday – when he will almost certainly be sent back to jail to await trial. Prosecutor Gerhard Sedlacek has said that Fritzl did not have an accomplice. From the start, investigators have said there was no sign that Fritzl had help - even though many have been baffled how he managed to keep his daughter and their children hidden for so long.

If so many women have written expressing their 'love' for him then does that mean that this type of thing could be a lot more common? It boggles the mind...

I can't believe there are that many stupid women in existence. He has a wife, but I guess she doesn't let him fuck her. Why he didn't just put his wife in the basement and force her to have sex is beyond me......This man is so extremely sick in the head. I really wish he would suffer while in jail, but I guess he'll be pampered with three hots and a cot.

I don't know, pirty, I think the general population of almost any jail would make his stay very uncomfortable. Even criminals draw the line somewhere and fathering children with your daughter has got to be soooo far past anyone's line, that he doesn't stand a chance. I am just amazed that there are women out there defending him!!

Most nutters like that get fan mail - it's completely bizarre. Didn't Charles Bronson (killer) actually end up marrying someone who started writing to him after he got locked away?

My thought is that the same sort of people who are into S&M and bondage find people like this attractive.

Nah, that's definitely not true. Don't fall into the trap of thinking stuff like that - it's almost as bad as people who equate homosexuality with paedophilia. S&M people are lovely.

A clarification, as my oiriginal post didn’t quite come out the way it was intended

I'm not saying that if someone is into S&M then they would automatically feel an affinity with a person such as this, indeed you are certainly right as far as the majority is concerned, but I reckon if you were to categorize those few idiots who find this person attractive, they would likely also be into S&M, in that the idea of imprisoning a person, sexual slavery etc is attractive to them.

Yup, it's happened more than once. In the US, serial-killer Ted Bundy proposed to his wife during his trial and both of the Menendez brothers married women who corresponded with them after their incarceration. Boggles the mind.....
