what a crying shame... just shows how dangerous cycluing can be even for a pro. I'd guess that the van driver was 100% to blame, the prick.

So sad. One of my uncle's friends got knocked off of his bike by a driver (who i think was pissed too) and died.

V. Sad. The government should provide safe (off-road) areas for athletes to practice.

he was a 'road cyclist' (tour de France type racing) so that's not really practical. Jailing dangerous drivers for 20+ years might have some effect though.

ban all cars! i've had a few bike accidents in my time, i got pushed into a roundabout once - i was waiting to go and this car came up behind me almost like he didn't see me and just rammed into me, mashed up all the back wheel

Sad news indeed.

My brother was killed by a drunk driver, and I mean properly drunk off her arse 3 times over the limit and could hardly stand drunk. She hit him doing 3 times the speed limit head on. Not a scratch on her.

I can only echo what Mandy said. There's nothing more i hate than drunk drivers...such destruction can be caused by that stupid thing and all it takes is a bit of common sense.

It is always sad when promising life is cut short. It always seems like such a waste.

A £500 fine and a ban? There's justice for you.

Shocking. These days petty crimes get severe punishments and something as serious as this gets a fine and a ban. I bet a guilty concience can bring a lot worse than a stretch in prison though eh?
