Hilary isn't president yet. We don't know who it's going to be. But I know we have weathered worse in American history and it will change.

The American people already want it to and are speaking out. We're not as loud as we always get, but we will get there. Right now a lot of people are focusing on the current mortgage crisis and the state of the economy.

On above logic, the US will demand data on all flights round the world which could theoretically reach any US territory (i.e. most flights) -- and whilst they are at it, also through in all cargo ships leaving port.

Oh, strike last one out .. already done post 9/11 .. there is US approved "security" controls at all the major non-US ports .. can't have any tom, dick or mohammedan putting something bad on a boat heading to the US.

Today's music video by Mickyv is so apt (see GG thread)

I watched the video Mandy posted at the end of page 1 today (didn't agree with ALL of it, but certainly interesting). The filmmaker, Aaron Russo, was also the maker of a very good film that I saw recently, Trading Places, an anti-capitalist Christmas classic.

And don't forget to ensure your taxes are up to date before traveling (whether flying or crossing a border by car)

www.canada.com/topics/news/story.html?id=75c1f0e6-ac6a-4533-b2e1-9dc4aaf00eda&k=7321

After all, if the US government knows all about your travel plans, then if they want to give you hassle, they CAN by simply withholding their approval for you to board a plane (or giving you extra hassle on arrival).

After 9/11 the govt has been trying to keep us as safe as they can, do they get it right the first time, no, but I'd rather them make dumb mistakes then bury their heads in the sand and pretend everything is the same as it was pre-9/11. I have worked in the hotel industry for years and I haven't heard any or the travellers, international or not, complain about the govt vetoing their travel plans and trust me, business travellers love to complain. My Uncle was working in the Logan Tower on that day and as a supervisor had to tell a co-worker his wife's plane hit Tower 2, he still doesn't talk much about the 48 hours span, so whatever they need to do to try to prevent another day like that one I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and if I don't like the govt's policies I am free to leave, I hear Mexico is nice.

I just saw this, and thought of this thread in light of the 9/11 being brought up as an excuse to justify the loss of civil liberties :
