Gazing seductively at the camera clad in a revealing satin dress, feathered collar and vampy bobbed wig, Billie Piper shows a side fans have never seen before. The 24-year-old actress' dramatic transformation came for her new small screen role as a lady of the night in TV drama The Secret Diary Of A Call Girl
Far removed from her last TV appearance as Dr Who's tomboy assistant Rose Tyler, the raunchy new role will show viewers just how grown-up the former child pop star has become. The eight-part ITV show - due to hit screens on Sept 27 - is adapted from the anonymous memoirs of a high-class London call girl, and contains some of the most racy scenes of Billie's career.
"It's quite scary thinking people are going to see you in that way for the first time and that people may treat you differently," says the Swindon-born star about stepping into the character's stilettos. "But I considered this job more than anything before."

For a start she appears to be the only hooker in the world who has sex with her pants on. And from what I could see the only thing that sucked was the writing. I know it's the oldest profession but does that mean they had to use the oldest scripts too? And sexy? Do me a favour. Twenty years ago this might have been a Red Triangle moment. Now? About as arousing as sharing a bubble bath with John McCririck.
Part Emmanuelle, part Benny Hill, part Footballers' Wives. But mainly a Hotel Babylon episode stretched out for an entire series. Offensively unfunny. And so tacky they should have just called it Motel Babylon.
Yeah, Billie's an attractive girl. But I simply cannot look at her without seeing Chris Evans's flag flapping in the breeze. And, if pushed, I'd still rather take her co-star Cherie Lunghi frolicking in her bra and pants.
But Billie's main concern is whether this is merely a bad career move or a cynical piece of rebranding gone wrong. If it's the former she can have some slack — she's still young, and making the leap from kids' TV into the world of threesomes, gang bangs and fetish gear was never going to be trouble free (just ask John Leslie).
But if it was the latter then, in an age where teenage girls would apparently rather be porn stars than nurses, her agent (this show's exec producer, by the way) must be proud that Billie looks like the new face of a Whores R Us recruitment drive.
This show can focus happily on the cash, the nice flat, the friendly punters and the top-class lingerie if it wants to. But where are the trips to the clap clinic, the crack comedown, the beatings from the pimp or the agonising over extra danger money for that job in Ipswich?
Utterly brainless. But, hey, this is ITV2 we're talking about, the same dopey muppets who've made episodes that are only half an hour long. I mean, surely they'd have got Billie cheaper if they'd gone for the full hour?

Harsh criticism for the sake of it - I missed the show myself, but if I'd tuned in I wouldn't have expected a porn movie on national TV!
