...to the left of Labour

Post by popinjay »

One thing George says that confuses me is when he claims to be the only parlimentarian to the left of labour to be elected for decades. What about the Lib Dems? What about Sarah Teather? Labour moved to the right, drastically. They're now pro-privitisation, free market capitalists.

The Lib Dems do seem to be to the left of New [or now anti-] Labour.

Maybe George meant traditional labour. i.e. I wonder if he said left of New Labour, or left of Labour.

I'd have guessed Sinn Fein were slightly to the left also - but they don't sit in the parliament...

I presume he means self-avowed socialist/marxist. I seem to remember he said that the Piratin guy was the last one before him and he was a communist. The Lib Dem's are to the left of new labour but they are Liberal not Socialist, Sinn Fein i suppose count because they are socialist but as face said they don't sit in westminster.
