Kazakhstan is being investigated for tax evasion, the country's
financial police said on Tuesday.
A financial police spokeswoman said a criminal case had been launched against Sabit Kanatov, deputy chairman of the Central Asian country's Tax Committee.
Kanatov has denied any wrongdoing.
The financial police said a private tax consultancy where Kanatov previously worked as a partner had evaded about 10 million tenge (41,200 pounds) in taxes.
