Yes, a fellow named Ki Bang Lee from the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology created a prototype of a urine-activated paper battery. If you want the details of his creation, you can read his abstract, but the upshot is thebattery produces power comparable to an AA cell for about 90 minutes. Lee sees potential for them being used in "bioMEMS devices such as home-based health test kits providing a power source for the electronic circuit."

Sadly, I don't think the rat was a gag, but I don't know for sure.
The mobile straps blew my mind! That was tacky beyond belief! I have a hard enough time seeing people wear them constantly on their belts!
