Do you know who Fred Dibnah is?

Post by faceless »

I was really surprised to hear Galloway say tonight that he didn't know who Fred Dibnah was - have you heard of him?

You can read more about him here: www.dibnahs.com and here's a one hour tribute to him by the BBC (you might need to pause the video for a while to let it buffer after pressing play)

I'll have to read more about him. I asked my husband if he knew who he was and he didn't either.

I've not heard of him either. But I'm not surprised, since I haven't heard about a lot of the people in this thread...... it certainly is an education :)

I've heard of him, though only because he used to do a show with his name in the title. Otherwise I wouldn't have a clue.

I was a bit surprised when he didn't know as well. He used to put fires in the bottom of the old chimney stacks and somehow get 'em to tumble.

here's another link

not sure about Mastermind champ - there was a Fred Housego, who was a taxi driver, who won it.

I had not heard of him either, but my excuse is that I've been out of the country for a few years ! Anyhow he seemed like an interesting character, and I'm looking forward to viewing the programmes about him.

I thought it was funny that GG suspected it was a wind-up !
