Ex President Ford

Post by faceless »

There are tributes to this guy in the majority of media sources today, and to be honest I don't see why anyone who was put in their position of power by someone as corrupt as Nixon could be considered that worthy, but I'll do som reading up and see. Also, they all seem to make mention of the fact that he was the first man not to be elected into that office, but what about Lyndon Johnson after Kennedy was assassinated?

The alarm went off this morning and this is what was on the news. It was a bit of a shock to wake up to. He had been the first Vice President chosen under the terms of the Twenty-fifth Amendment. So that is probably what they are meaning. What's funny to me is the most outstanding memory I have of him (besides him falling occasionally while walking due to his bad knee) is the episode they have him on in the Simpsons where he moves across the street from Homer after George Bush Sr can't take it anymore.

However, don't forget, LBJ was not the first to succeed a president after he was killed. There was Andrew Johnson (after Lincoln), Chester B. Arthur (after Garfield), and Teddy Rossevelt (after McKinley).

Duh! It just hit me. Nixon appointed Ford to the office after Spiro Agnew. Ford was never elected in as vice-president he was appointed.

Yeah, I was sitting on the couch, eatting my breakfast trying to remember it all and the name Agnew popped into my head. I went "D'oh" and then remembered my history

Then when Watergate happened and Nixon was ousted, Ford got in, never being elected to either office. I don't know a lot about American History, but, this was one thing I was somewhat familiar with.

Sorry to hear that he's gone, but I understand that he was quite ill over the last few years.
