Awww...I feel for you eefan.
We'll be thinking of you and hoping it goes fast so you can get home and enjoy yourself. Maybe you can go a bit mad like this guy >>>>>
I used to prefer New Year's Eve cos I was always out partying being a and having a few of these >>> but since I got into my mid-30s I think I've become a bit boring and it doesn't seem the same anymore. So...now I think it's Christmas Eve that wins. We go to the Carol Concert (at the bequest of my Mother-in-law, and then we head back to the warmth for a few glasses of plonk and wait for midnight, so we can open a tree present (or two). Lovely!

I will have a little drink to ya on xmas!

Cheers! I'm sure I'll be needing one as it's usually one of our busiest days of the year.
And thanks everyone for thinking of me...... you really do get used to missing holidays and such..... pretty much made up my mind that was going to happen when I got into nursing.
I think it's likely that we'll celebrate on Boxing day that way I can have a whole day rather than cramming in a big dinner and everything into a couple of hours in the evening.
Guys
The thing now I am living in OZ is that it does not really feel like christmas. I think its because the weather is hot and it just dont feel "right"
Last year we did not even put up an xmas tree, first time in my 38 yrs I have not had a tree...
This year we are going to make a big effort and go the whole way.....

It's bound to be completely different when you're in a warmer country. In years past I've gone to places like Mexico etc for the hols and it didn't feel like christmas at all.
If you want it to feel more like what you're use to, you have to get into the feel of it and put up a tree and do all the things you would have back home. That should bring it closer to you.
I'm not home either so it's really different for me as well. I've done the same things each and every year and it's all thrown off, but the only thing to do is make the best of it. I get into watching a lot of christmas films that I would have back home, and that really helps with the ole spirit.

Hey Barry,
I know exactly what you mean. Several years ago I lived in Texas right on the Mexican border. While it got "cooler" in December it was nothing like the Canadian winters I'm used to. It didn't seem quite like Christmas either..... but we did do some things to make it a little more festive-- decorations, turkey, etc. The big custom down there was actually putting the Christmas lights across the lawn in front of your house rather than actually on the house...... never quite understood that one but it got them in the spirit so I guess it worked!
Oddly enough, I went to a New year's party and learned a very new custom. At midnight, people started shooting blanks out of their rifles.... just about fell over when one guy asked me if I wanted to shoot a few!!!!

The one film that gets me in the mood is Home Alone. I totally love it and it gives me chills. Other ones I love are as follows....and it's a big list lol
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Christmas Story with Peter Billingsley (funny as hell)
It's a Wonder Life
Jack Frost
The Santa Claus 1&2
Miracle on 34th Street
There's probably loads more but all of those does it for me :santajump:

My parents got me into liking it as they always watched it year after year. It became tradition I suppose. I bought the DVD recently and looking forward to seeing it. It was filmed in 1946 so if you do get it, look for the coloured version.

Christmas Vacation is a family tradition for us. That film and a Christmas Story (also) always put me in the Christmas mood.

Sounds silly, but the Sound of Music is mine. It's hoaky and corny and they play it every holiday season. Sadly, I will even admit to knowing all the words to The Lonely Goatherd.
