So what is next, a new draft calling for free food for the anorexics. |

It wouldn't surprise me nico.
It's just stupid in my opinion. Especially in a place where you are supposed to be "free". Not only is it discrimination but it's just ignorant. People are not overweight just because they eat out. And in all honesty, if they are okay with it, that's their choice.
Are they going to force them to work out? Will grocery stores have to make sure they don't buy ho-ho's? Please. This isn't the governments job. |

Dear Skylace, I wish and I beg you to stop using the term "free" regarding USA. Hasn't history proved us enough that this is merely a cliché provided to convince the rest of the world that whatever they do is due to a noble cause. What is free? growing up watching Mickey mouse and Goofy, constantly being brain washed by Hollywood from very early stages of life, that the creator of these figures, must be right, because they gave them to us.
There is nothing free in USA. That was 20th century. 21st is the awakenning and I can't find a better word for USA than fascism. |

Dear nico, I wish you would not tell me what to do. I'll say what I want. Not to mention I live here and it's not fascism. It ain't perfect, but it ain't that.
Sincerely,
Skylace |

As the bloke in the article mentioned, it won't go through, but it's a good way to highlight the issue...the amount of fast food some people eat is seriously quite scary and something that'll curb that can't be all to bad tbh.... |

Ok skylace, I didn't mean to bombard you with politics, since you live there, okay I understand your patriotism.
Sometimes I get carried away, especialy when it comes to defending a country, that is the center attention in daily politics, stamped with a grim future and supposed to be free.
Then again, which country is perfect!!!!! |

First off, I'm not a patriot. I've lived in many different countries and one thing I know from experience not one of them is perfect. I consider myself a citizen of the world. I don't think the US is perfect at all and it never will be and it never has been. No place will be.
What I have a problem with is you telling me not to use a certain word or express an opinion. Not to mention if you had actually paid attention to what I was saying in my first post that it was against the idea of "freedom" something I am aware isn't around as much anymore here in the states. I put the word free in quotes after all.
Next time before you go off being snarky I suggest you look at what was written and choose your words. Because I won't have you or a government telling me what I can and cannot say. |

nico, you should watch out for the Dave Gorman show 'Unchained America' - it will put to bed almost all the ideas you've become convinced of regarding America. It certainly opened my eyes a bit more.
And also, being sarcastic to admins is never a good idea - Sky has that position because she's trusted to treat people on merit rather than their nationality or other such device. |

Wow, okay, well, back to the issue at hand....Not only does it bring attention to a growing issue not only in the US, but in other countries as well (Weight Watchers International would not be doing as well as it is if it weren't), but I think the bill writers want to enforce another myth out there, that is that the blame for the obesity of a nation falls squarely on the shoulders of the fast food industry. IMO, that is a load of crap and I know from whence I speak. I am one of those "fatties" that would not be served and my weight loss is well documented in the Health threads (BTW - update - 48.2 lbs and 1.8 lbs away from my new tattoo!). In no way shape or form do I blame the fast food industry for my weight issues. They do not lasso me from the street and force me to order, or better stated, over order in their fine establisment. I make my food choices and for the better part of 45 years, I have been making the wrong ones. Not McDonalds, not Wendys, not Burger King, but Spursfan...plain and simple. Would I still be fat if there were no fast food? Absolutely. It is in my genes (and hanging over my jeans!! ). So in an effort to end this rant, suffice it to say that I think that this bill is just ridiculous and it brings to light the wrong message. All IMO, of course.... |

You make some excellent points Spurs and I agree with you 100%. Part of my issues with weight is my height. It's difficult to keep weight of at my height and of course, I love food. I'm not a fan of fast food either. I can't think of the last time I had meal from McDonald's or the like. For me it's been lack of exercise (got to the gym twice this week though woot) and bad food choices myself. I'm working on changing that as well.
The government can't make people do that by not allowing them to be served. Being fat, like we both said, isn't from the fast food chains. Now what they can do instead is offer incentives, special activities for the whole city, etc. I know other cities have done that as well in the past. Making city wide challenges, making sure people know good and bad eating etc. So many people would lose weight if they just knew how.
I am so proud of you btw. You are doing awesome. In all honesty you have been an inspiration to me and I appreciate it |

These companies work in the same way as a drug-dealer - they make the shit available to people who might not have the self-control to control their intake. Also, they overload advertising mediums to make those of us who can't see through the crap believe that it's all ok...
I'd recommend you watch the 'McLibel - Two People Who Wouldn't Say Sorry' documentary that's in the streaming TV section for a close examination of how they work. |

I agree with you on how the companies operate Face but I know there are also plenty of other people out there who are heavy regardless of this fact. There are people who it's not the fast food that gets them. There are people who will just buy junk in the stores. Donuts, pigs feet, chips/crisps, fatty meats, the lot. Not one drive thru in site.
However, the fast food doesn't help. |

Well said, both of you! I'm overweight but quite frankly, it's nobody's issue but my own. I don't blame anyone for it but me and, quite frankly, I'm the one to fix it the issue, not some government telling me where I can and can't eat. |
