The west end of Glasgow and all towns as far north and west as Oban and Dunoon lost all electricty this afternoon at about 4:20pm. I first checked the trip switches here then the houses next door, then the street outside and then cycled a couple of miles to see how far it went. All the people hanging about on the street was quite a weird sight.

At one point there was this young student guy with a pro camera taking photos, so as I cycled past I shouted 'The whole city's in chaos back that way man, run!' and cycled off laughing... the look of horror on his face had to have been a better photo op than what he'd seen!

It's all back on now though - but I had to dig out an old tranny radio meanwhile. It felt like the 70s all over...

sounds interesting for sure.

I remember when I first moved to London, I was living in Catford and the power went out. Not sure how far out it went but it was chaos in the streets pretty fast. One guy set up a candle stand outside his shop so fast you would have thought he was the one to cut the power Laughing
We also saw another guy make off with a load of money from one of the BT payphones.
It all last about five hours and we had a fun old time in the flat.

the first thing I went for was some candles in the shop downstairs in case it lasted a while - I got the only packet he had...

Here's the BBC report about it - Oban is about 100 miles north, so it really was a big area affected. Pesky BBC people should know that we're in BST now, not GMT. In fact, now that I think, anyone downloading the shows should be aware that the clocks went forward yesterday.
