I wonder if in all the Cowboys & Indian movies whether there is a racist undertone (almost condoning ethnic cleansing).

Almost propaganda like. Unsure if that was the reason I never liked them at the time.

The only cowboy movies I liked was the Magnificent Seven franchise, and a long running series around a family farm (whose name I can't recall).

p.s. I see my posting crossed with Luke, and we both mentioned propaganda.

interesting point, and no i wouldn't - cos i wouldn't like to give him a penny, but its not really a fair comparison - as far as i'm aware john wayne never started an illegal war of aggression, lowed social mobility or moved more and more power and wealth into fewer and fewer hands :wink2:
hmmm ... he may not have "started" the Hollywood Blacklisting but he did help ruin people's lives through it. Which basically hits all 3 points ...

absolutely they were! Whether you tag it as ethnic cleansing or american propaganda it tastes the same.

Mag seven was different. It was a small village against bandits. You could cheer for the "underdog" as it were.

I believe you were referring to Bonanza for the tv show.
